EVALUATION: VIOLENCE OR LEARNING INSTRUMENT?

This research aimed to analyze the conceptions of children between 6 and 10 years old about the assessment of learning, considering their function and feelings that it arouses. The research subjects were 26 children aged 6 to 10 years, students of the Early Years of Basic Education. The choice was made considering the criteria of convenience, availability and authorization of those responsible. Data analysis was carried out from Viana (2014), with regard to evaluation questions and from Bourdieu (1989), with regard to symbolic violence. At the end of the research, we observed how much the evaluation has not fulfilled its objective of helping in the learning process, being restricted to an instrument of power that is understood as symbolic violence, causing negative feelings for children even in the initial phase of their studies. We emphasize the need to build a new culture of learning assessment, in which children understand the need to experience evaluative processes so that they can better each day in their studies.
