This paper presents results of the activities carried out until July 2019 in the extension project “Informatics, education and access to knowledge: fostering teaching with sociocultural quality and social inclusion in the municipal schools of Garanhuns - PE”, whose main aim is to contribute to the effective use of informatics in education in public schools in the municipality of Garanhuns (PE), and enabling the continuity of the extension projects ‘Information technologies, communication and education: enhancing the teaching and learning processes’ (2016), ‘Informatics and multimedia’ in basic education: intensifying free software with an educational focus in the municipality of Garanhuns (PE) ‘(2017) and’ Informatics in municipal schools of Garanhuns (PE): providing training, access and digital inclusion ‘(2018). The activities to be explained the focus on the formative axis of the project. During this axis, from 2016 until today, workshops were held on the operating system and free educational software available on the “One Computer per Student” (UCA) netbook, where teachers, coordinators, supervisors and managers of the municipal network could participate. In 2019, the workshops on the operating system and free educational software started in the computer labs of the municipal schools were started, where it was possible to carry out the continuous training focused on the desktop. In this formative action of the project, preparing lesson plans for the use of software available in the UCAs and the desktop; and sending the plans to the virtual environment and making them available to the entire community. Considering the actions already completed and those that are in progress, we have made considerable progress on improvements in information technology applied to education in the municipal network of Garanhuns. We are continuing activities in this second semester to develop 3 training programs, including: use of the computer lab, use of free software available at UCAs, science and computer methodologies and a training on computational thinking; publication of free software usage guides available on UCA netbooks and municipal school desktops and monitoring the use of UCAs and desktops.
