Paleontology is one of the natural sciences that can provide students with an awareness of the environment in which they live and how the evolution of organisms provides the diversity seen today. Based on this assumption, this article presents results through the analysis of paleontological knowledge data obtained in a Reference School in High School with 43 students of the 2nd year. The methodology consisted of applying a qualitative and quantitative questionnaire to obtain data and diagnose the students' paleontological knowledge. It was seen that the students' knowledge about this science is very low, it was noted that when the subject is dinosaurs, a subject that tends to be always interesting for most students, they showed very little interest, demonstrating not knowing the species discovered in Brazil, but on the other hand, it was noted that they knew that paleontology helps to clarify and support evolutionary theory. Despite this, it is necessary to have pedagogical intervention projects to disseminate this science and awaken curiosity in students to become future researchers.
